PILLHEADS - Digitare prima dei pasti "Digitare prima dei pasti" (Type Before Meals) is released on CD and double LP, containing eight tracks in Italian on the first disc and their English versions on the second. It comes with a 45 RPM single featuring "Sei una mente creativa?" (Are You a Creative Mind?), the first song composed in collaboration with artificial intelligence ever, which, besides being the subject of the lyrics, appears materially in parts of the song, duetting with the band. The music of Pillheads consists of thoughtful lyrics inspired by the great Italian singer-songwriters, highlighting the discomfort of contemporary man. The music is inspired by the world of British rock, with various and unexpected stylistic combinations, resulting in a unique and recognizable sound. Pillheads are a new musical entity from Italy. The story began years ago in London, where Paolo Baltaro, former leader of Arcansiel and S.A.D.O., with two solo albums to his credit, was working as a composer and producer for his label Banksville Records, releasing albums by various unconventional Italian and international artists. Initially, the band composed in English and frequented the British underground scene until their return to Italy in 2020, when Paolo and bassist Daniele Mignone decided to give the project a new direction by writing new lyrics in Italian, while maintaining the dual English version for the entire production line (songs, videos, and various content) for the European market. In 2023, the group was completed with Giuseppe Garavana on guitar and Sam Costanzo on drums. The name Pillheads comes from an idea by Phil Strongman (former director of the Sex Pistols and close collaborator of Malcolm McLaren), with whom the group produced the live album "Live Pillheads" (Musea Records) in 2018. PILLHEADS means "those who take medications without real need," a metaphor that takes on many meanings in the messages contained in their lyrics, also supported by the immaterial presence of Quentin McPill, the band's virtual avatar represented by a man with a pill head. The artistic concept of Pillheads revolves around the alienated condition of humanity, the designated victim of an unstoppable global transformation aimed at eliminating any points of reference, values, and well-being created by 20th-century analog culture. Man, now forced to live in a state of constant emergency (economic, health, environmental), becomes both commodity and guinea pig of his unpredictable destiny. The "pills" of the Pillheads represent, if not a cure, a question, a point of reflection, an opportunity to consider music and song as tools of knowledge and not of vacuous entertainment for its own sake. The band has opened for nationally and internationally renowned artists, including Area, Banco, Pierpaolo Capovilla, Dirty Honey, and Jiro Okabe.
